u-Hits is a general internet directory / search-portal that offering both free and paid reviews of website submissions. All of our pages are search-engine friendly, meaning that when you submit a listing to our directory, your site will get seen by the major SE players.

We deliberately don't have thousands of meaningless categories; Instead, we try to streamline our database and only have categories that we feel are absolutely necessary. u-Hits currently has 1725 approved links in 677 categories. This is growing on a daily basis as our traffic increases dramatically.

History

The domain www.u-hits.com was first registered on 25th July 2003 with the intention of starting a directory service, but other matters took over and the domain remained unused; That is until the summer of 2005 when the first code was installed thereby creating a somewhat rudamentary directory. The code that was installed was very basic and proved somewhat problematic. Also, being CGI-Perl 'flat-file' type script, it was very slow. This ran for some time, while a new backend script was researched.

On the 8th May 2007 a new script was purchased. However, to facilitate this, we needed to change hosts as the one we had did not support PHP or CGI; a BIG requirement for the new script. Within 48 hours of purchasing the script we had managed to change hosts, install the script, undertaken massive customisation and moved the existing user base over by hand!....... something we at u-Hits are very proud of! It took a couple of very long days (and nights), but we think the result was worth it!

During the end of September / October 2007 it was decided that a better CSS complient design was required. Although the old 'black' design was relatively problem free in terms of operation, certain layout issues were being experienced by users of different browsers, such as Firefox. The original design had been written in pure HTML with very little CSS styling involved. To that end, a new 'Green' design was built using pure CSS styling. With no HTML table elements, the new design has been tested with the latest versions of Internet Explorer and Firefox.
